Tanja Nixx was born and raised in Hannover Germany. After finishing high school, she went to live for a year in Paris France. After she had been rejected twice at the Hannover Art School, she made an apprenticeship in “pre-print-production”, which is similar to Graphic-Design.

In 1988 Tanja left Germany, to go to the Republic of the Congo, ended up living there for a while and then crossed Africa on the Congo-River, traveled through South East Asia and finally settled down in San Francisco.

She started painting and drawing again, while making a living bartending After getting her first tattoo at “Erno’s tattoo shop” in 1989 and she was instantly attracted to the art and craft of tattooing. It was not until some years later in 1993 that she started to learn tattooing on her friends and bar patrons.

In 1995 she was hired as an apprentice at the famous “
Lyle Tuttle Tattoo” and promoted a year later as the manager and later bought the shop. The same year she started to co-produce and act as one of the main characters, in the independent road movie called “Love Will Travel.” The film was featured in numerous film festivals in the US and Europe.
